Linocut Workshops with Ann Lewis PRCA

'Birds in Linocut'

Saturday 15th October 2022

Ann Lewis PRCA will take you step-by-step from your sketch or photograph of a bird (or birds) to finished linocut, using her own work to explain and demonstrate the process of linocutting.

In the first half of the day, you'll learn how to 'reduce' your sketch or photograph into a simple, yet effective single colour image, then you'll transfer your drawing to your lino block before learning how to safely use your linocutting tools.

Birds with distinct black and white plumage such as a puffin, magpie, pied wagtail, woodpecker, avocet, lapwing, oystercatcher etc will work well or alternatively, ones with a striking colour contrast which we can adapt to work in black and white.

The second part of the day will be spent cutting your block, then proofing your image, before printing a small edition of original prints.

Please bring a 12cm x 10cm sketch or photograph to work from. Please make sure your bird takes up most of the space, and if using a photograph, that it is a high contrast black and white image.
